But first, let’s figure out what causes global warming. Climate change is caused by different reasons. There are many factories and power plants that create a lot of heat. That heat increases the overall temperature on Earth. The growing consumption of electricity also worsens the problem. The more we consume, the more heat is coming to the atmosphere, and the warmer it becomes.
But why exactly global warming is a threat? The most dangerous part of the problem is the fact that the heat can reach the North and South Poles. If it happens, thousands of icebergs will start to melt. In the end, the overall water level will increase. Many coastal cities and islands will end up drowned. But there is still hope for mankind.
Global warming can be prevented if we all work together. We should use green energy, the kind of energy that comes from the sources that cause little or no impact on the environment. There are such green energy sources as solar panels, wind power stations and hydroelectric power plants. Some countries already decided to switch completely to alternative power sources by 2040. In conclusion, I would like to say that we are facing this problem for the first time. If we do the right things, we can make our world a better place.

Global warming is the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system. It is a major aspect of current climate change. The largest human influence has been the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.
The effects of global warming include rising sea levels and expansion of deserts. Surface temperature increases are greatest in the Arctic, which has contributed to the retreat of glaciers and sea ice. Environmental impacts include the extinction or relocation of many species as their ecosystems change.
Countries work together on climate change under the umbrella of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The ultimate goal of the convention is to «prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system».

Our planet is facing a very serious environmental crisis today. It is called global warming. And it is the result of man’s intervention with our nature.
Power stations, cars, factories and plants produce an enormous amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) nowadays. Cement production and burning of carbon-based fuels have boosted its concentration in the atmosphere, leading to global warming. Perfume sprays and carbons used in refrigerators also contribute to global warming. Trees and plants are able to change carbon dioxide back to vital oxygen. However humankind is rapidly cutting down trees in the Amazon rainforests. That is why the amount of carbon dioxide in the air is constantly increasing.
Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, it allows infrared radiation from the sun to enter the atmosphere on the Earth and not to leave it. This process causes the surface to heat up. Scientists discovered that the polar ice caps and glaciers around the world were melting. It creates more water and raises sea levels. In many parts of our planet, from North Pole to South Pole, there are intense floods on land near the coast. In general, the world’s climate is changing: warm areas are suffering from severe winters, and cold areas are getting warmer.
If warming continues, the sea levels are expected to rise much more. Floods, storms and hurricanes are likely to become stronger. All the cities near the sea-shore will be under water. Besides, some infectious diseases (malaria, for example) can become common with increasing temperatures. And our crops will be infected with diseases too. So it’s a common concern of humankind to save our planet. There are many possible ways to make our climate stable and safe: increasing forestlands, vehicle fuel economy, using of wind and solar power and many others.

The problem of global warming is often discussed in the mass media: newspapers, television, the Internet. So what is the essence of the phenomenon? Scientists have recorded a gradual increase in average air and sea temperatures over the past century. Most researchers attribute this change to human industrial activity. They point out that the temperature increase was triggered by the industrial revolution that began in the 18th century, when manual labor was massively replaced by machine labor. In order to make machines work, a person burns oil and oil products (gasoline, for example), coal, natural gas, and as a result, the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increases, and they retain heat, which leads to a rise in temperature.
What threats does global warming entail? First of all, it is the melting of glaciers. And they are sources of fresh water, and in the near future, humanity will face the problem of shortage of drinking water. Moreover, melting ice leads to the rise of the world’s oceans, and as a result, coastal territories are flooded. Many settlements located in the lowlands will disappear, and people will have to look for a new place of residence, which can cause conflicts.
Rising temperatures lead to more frequent natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and droughts. This negatively affects both people’s lives and flora and fauna, and leads to the extinction of small species of plants and animals. Scientists fear that in the next 100 years, 50% of biological species may disappear from the surface of the earth.
Climate change has a negative impact on the social life of people. According to a meta-analysis conducted in 2014, a rise in temperature causes an increase in aggression among people, which leads to fights, riots and even wars.
We live on a unique planet and, as intelligent creatures, we must take care of the environment, correctly building our relations with nature, just to not disappear like dinosaurs.

Global Warming
Global warming is sometimes referred to as the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the absorption of energy radiated from the Earth’s surface by carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to become warmer.
Each time we burn gasoline, oil, coal, or even natural gas, more carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is what is causing the temperature on the Earth to rise, and creating many problems that will begin to take place in the coming decades.
Today, however, major changes are taking place. People are conducting an unplanned global experiment by changing the face of the entire planet. We are destroying the ozone layer, which allows life to exist on the Earth’s surface.
All of these activities are unfavourably changing the composition of the biosphere and the Earth’s heat balance. If we do not slow down our use of fossil fuels and stop destroying the forests, the world could become hotter than it has been in the past million years.
Average global temperatures have risen 1 degree over the last century. If carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases continue to spill into the atmosphere, global temperatures could rise five to 10 degrees by the middle of the next century. Some areas, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, will dry out and a greater occurrence of forest fires will take place.
At the present rate of destruction, most of the rain forests will be gone by the middle of the century. This will allow man-made deserts to invade on once lush areas. Evaporation rates will also increase and water circulation patterns will change.
Decreased rainfall in some areas will result in increased rainfall in others. In some regions, river flow will be reduced or stopped all together completely. Other areas will experience sudden downpours that create massive floods.
If the present arctic ice melting continues, the sea could rise as much as 2 meters by the middle of the next century. Large areas of coastal land would disappear.
Plants and other wildlife habitats might not have enough time to adjust to the rapidly changing climate. The warming will rearrange entire biological communities and cause many species to become died out.
The greenhouse effect and global warming both correspond with each other. The green house effect is recalled as incoming solar radiation that passes through the Earth’s atmosphere but prevents much of the outgoing infrared radiation from escaping into outer space. It causes the overheat of the air and as a result, we have the global warming effect. As you see, greenhouse effect and global warming correspond with each other, because without one, the other doesn’t exist.

What is Global Warming
Global warming is a gradual process of heating of earth’s surface and whole environment including oceans, ice caps, etc. The global rise in atmospheric temperature has been clearly noticed in the recent years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the past century there is increase in the earth’s surface average temperature by around 1.4 degree Fahrenheit (means 0.8 degrees Celsius). It has also been estimated that global temperature may increase by another 2 to 11.5 degrees F in the next century.
Causes of Global Warming
There are many causes of the global warming, some are natural causes and some are human made causes. The most important cause of global warming is greenhouse gases which are generated by some natural processes as well as human activities. The increase in the level of green house gases has been seen in the 20th century because of the increasing population, economy and use of energy. Increasing demand of industrialization in the modern world to fulfill almost each need is causing the release of variety of green house gases through many industrial processes in the atmosphere.
The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) gas has been increased in the recent years by 10-fold. The release of carbon dioxide gas varies according to the natural and industrial processes including photosynthesis and oxidation cycles. Methane is another green house gas release in the atmosphere by the anaerobic decomposition of organic materials. Other greenhouse gases are like oxides of nitrogen (nitrous oxide), halocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chlorine and bromine compounds, etc. Such green house gases get collected to the atmosphere and disturb the radiative balance of atmosphere. They have capability to absorb heat radiations and cause warming of the earth surface.
Another cause of global warming is ozone depletion means declination of ozone layer over Antarctica. Ozone layer is declining day by day by increasing release of chlorofluorocarbon gas. It is a human generated cause of global warming. Chlorofluorocarbon gas is used at many places as aerosol propellants in the industrial cleaning fluids and in the refrigerators, the gradual release of which causes declination to the ozone layer in the atmosphere.
Ozone layer causes protection to the earth surface by inhibiting the harmful sun rays to coming to the earth. However, gradually declining ozone layer is the big indication of increasing global warming of the earth surface. Harmful ultraviolet sun rays are entering to the biosphere and get absorbed by the green houses gases which ultimately increase the global warming. According to the statistics, it has been estimated that the size of ozone hole has been twice the size of Antarctica (more than 25 million km2) by 2000. There is no any clear trend of ozone layer declination in the winter or summer seasons.
Presence of various aerosols in the atmosphere is also causing earth’s surface temperature to increase. Atmospheric aerosols are fully capable to scatter (causes cooling to the planet) and absorb (makes air warm) the solar and infrared radiations. They are also capable to change the microphysical and chemical properties of the clouds and possibly their lifetime and extent. The increasing amount of aerosols in the atmosphere is because of human contribution. Dust is produced by agriculture, organic droplets and soot particles are produced by biomass burning, and aerosols are produced by the industrial processes through the burning of wide variety of products in the manufacturing process. Various emissions by means of transport generate different pollutants which get converted to the aerosols through many chemical reactions in the atmosphere.
Effects of Global Warming
The effects of global warming have been very clear in the recent years because of increasing sources of global warming. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it has been recorded that there were 150 glaciers located in the Montana’s Glacier National Park however because of increasing effect of global warming, only 25 glaciers are left. Huge level climate changes are making hurricanes more dangerous and powerful. Natural storms are getting so strong by taking energy from temperature difference (of cold upper atmosphere and warm Tropical Ocean). Year 2012 has been recorded as hottest year since 1895 and year 2013 together with 2003 as the warmest year since 1880.
Global warming causes lot of climate changes in the atmosphere such as increasing summer season, decreasing winter season, increasing temperature, changes in air circulation patterns, jet stream, rain without season, melting ice caps, declining ozone layer, occurrence of heavy storms, cyclones, flood, drought, and so many effects.
Solutions of Global Warming
Many awareness programmes and programmes to reduce global warming have been run and implemented by the government agencies, business leaders, private sectors, NGOs, etc. Some of the damages through global warming cannot be returned by the solution (like melting of ice caps). However, we should not get back and try everyone’s best to reduce the effects of global warming by reducing the human causes of global warming. We should try to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and adopt some climate changes which are already happening for years. Instead of using electrical energy we should try using clean energy or energy produced by solar system, wind and geothermal. Reducing the level of coal and oil burning, use of transportation means, use of electrical devices, etc may reduce the global warming to a great level.

As a result, a kind of a gas blanket is created in the atmosphere. This gas blanket doesn’t allow heat to leave the Earth’s surface. The global temperature is rising. And the situation is becoming disastrous.
Industry development caused the air, land and water pollution.
Global warming is changing the weather worldwide. Great floods, extreme snow, disastrous hurricanes and terrible droughts are the results of global warming.
