Король Чарльз lll,  пишется как Charles Ill, произносится как «кинг чарлз».

Сейчас, в век информации и коммуникаций, внесение путиницы в наименования и имена собственные не приносит ничего хорошего кроме плохого. Вот уже началась и котовасия в русскоязычном сегменте с бывшим принцем Чарльзом. Весь мир короля будет называть Чарльзом, но у русских собственная гордость и они упрямо будут величать короля Великобритании немецким именем Карл )))

Российские грамотеи сообщают, что принц Чарльз, став королём, выбрал себе имя Карл lll.

Из чего как бы следует, что перехотел принц называться Чарльзом, и выбрал себе имя Карл.

Во-первых, выбрал он себе монаршее имя из имеющихся у него от рождения четырёх имён, оставив одно — Чарльз, поскольку его полное имя Чарльз Филипп Артур Джордж, а короля традиционно зовут более коротко. А про Карла в русском исполнении «традиций», думаю, он даже и не слыхал.

Никаким Карлом новый король Великобритании не назвался. Король Чарльз lll как был Чарльзом в бытность принцем, так и остался, пишется   Charles, произносится  «чарлз».

Но умные грамотеи объясняют нам, что Чарльз — английский вариант имени Карл, и  якобы в России, по сложившейся с конца XIX века традиции, британских королей называют именно на германский манер: не Джордж, а Георг, не Вильям, а Вильгельм.

Вот насмешили! «По сложившейся в России традиции», ха-ха.
Традиции — они в старушке Англии, а у нас какие могут быть монаршие традиции, да ещё и на предмет чужого государства?

Какая традиция всего за сто лет, с конца 19 века могла устояться в государстве, где Царей сменяли Председатели Совнаркомов, Первых секретарей — Генеральные секретари, Президента — Премьер-министр, и обратно…

Ну и напоследок. Как могла с конца 19 века в России сложиться традиция называть королей Великобритании  Карлами, если за этот период там правили Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VII,I George VI, Elizabeth II, и НИ ОДНОГО Charles.

Но мы не удивляемся. С такими-то «профессионалами» в нашем Министерстве иностранных дел любую традицию вытерпим, привыкли уж…
