Family fun
I viewed this film with my 9-yr old daughter as part of the 2012 DC Filmfest. We both loved it for its heartwarming story and the outstanding animation. Originally made in French, the version which we saw is entirely in English with no subtitles.
Through the generosity of Aunt Eleanor, Nat is introduced to many of the characters of classic literature, such as Alice (of Wonderland), the White Rabbit, Pinocchio, Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and the Little Match Girl. His vivid imagination makes up for being very slow to learn how to read, about which his older sister teases him without mercy. The setting on the beach allows the adventurers to encounter some creatures who add to the suspense as time is running out to save the day.
We highly recommend this to be seen with your family.

One charming animated film

This was such an enjoyable animated film, with a very a nice story and a pleasant visual style.
Even when the story could seem to be a bit simple at first sight, it actually has many wonderful qualities, that made it charming and captivating.
I think that now more than ever is a good thing to teach the kids about the marvels of reading and imagination, and about the importance of the stories to be preserves by future generations. In that aspect, this movie did an incredible work, being much better done and more honest that many other movies with a similar message.
It is also a very entertaining fantasy flick, with many interesting characters and a good balance of humor and adventure, not to mention the very pleasant visual style that this movie had, making it a nice and delightful animated film for the whole family with lots of heart.
I highly recommend it.

I love Rebecca Dautremer’s drawings. It is especially the drawings that make this film worth watching. The story is fine too. It is about a boy who can’t read, but whose aunt always read him stories. When the aunt dies, he inherits her library. Then, the stories come to life and he has to fulfill a quest. If you want to see all those characters, like Alice and the white rabbit, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, giants and witches, in a style different from Disney’s, then I recommend you watch this movie. My kids loved it too. They watched it nothing short of three times and were unhappy that I had to bring it back to the video rental store.

80 minutes short French animated feature movie. The story of a six year old boy who involved in saving the tiny magical creatures. A similar kind of movie to ‘Le Tableau’. After all, this was the first movie to release. I have not seen a single European animation since last few months, so decided to go with it and I had a nice time. Firstly, I thought it was a children’s movie, yes it was and as a grown up I was not annoyed instead enjoyed it like a kid.
A young boy called Nat, for him reading is a complicated issue. He always gets teased by his elder sister. On one summer his family decides to relocating to their ancestral house in a small town. He and his sisters remembers their grandmother who tells children’s stories during visits to see her. After her death, they come to know that she left some gifts for them. Financially suffering his family decides to get rid of old things from the house. Nat mistakenly discovers the tiny creatures who need his help to save their existence. So the boy’s quest begins to do something for others. The beautiful adventures are portrayed in the remains.
»Just because it was invented doesn’t mean it isn’t real»
Technically, it sounds great. The animation was very good and the characters were so cute. The story was not bad, but a little crawl in the adventure section. As it was a short movie, you won’t get any frustration. A short and lovely movie for family and kids. If ‘The Avengers’ is for adults, then this movie is for kids. All the famous characters from kids stories came together for this. Sadly, everyone had less time to spare to show their existence in the movie, but I expected a lot more. All in all it is still a nice movie to have. If any parents reading my this review kindly show it to your kids as well.

Nice artwork but unrealistic about children’s learning

I enjoyed this film’s artwork and my 7-year-old daughter enjoyed it too. However, I found the main premise — that a 6-year-old boy who isn’t yet reading ought to be pressurized into doing so — quite troubling.
The reality is that children have a very wide natural time range for learning to read, even wider than they have for learning to walk or talk. Some children learn at 3, some at 12 or 13. The late readers catch up very quickly with early ones, and are none the worse for it.
Yet everyone in the film, including the parents, is worried about the boy not yet reading fluently. He’s still so little! I loved the references to imagination in the story, and I think it should have focused wholly on that instead.

Нужно всего-навсего достать с полки потертую книгу, что когда-то держала в своих морщинистых руках бабушка. В те вешние годы она была проводником — нежный полушепот уносил в пещеру Али-Бабы и лес Красной шапочки. Из поколения в поколение сказки учили, развлекали, дарили детям мечту. Кто знает, что было бы с каждым из нас сейчас, не будь в нашем детстве Золушки и Спящей красавицы. Создатели мультфильма «Керити, жилище сказок» поселили знакомых героев детства на пыльный чердак тетушки Элеоноры, где хранятся первые издания всех на свете сказочных историй. Но в отличие от литературных персонажей, люди смертны, а потому старушка передает свой секрет маленькому племяннику Натаниэлю, который должен стать новым хранителем сказочной обители, прочесть волшебное заклинание, без которого герои книг исчезнут из мира людей навсегда. Одна беда — Натаниэль в свои семь не умеет читать.
Мультфильм Доминика Монфери не предлагает зрителю захватывающих приключений, но погружает в атмосферу ожившей фантазии. В идиллии французского побережья, где океан уходит за горизонт, а в комнату сквозь окна проникают солнечные зайчики, самое место волшебству. Тут нет хохочущих злодеев, как нет и навязчивого, дежурного юмора — не перегружая ленту, Монфери простым языком говорит о не менее простых вещах. Натаниэль сам словно собирательный образ героя старой легенды — неказистый и трусливый мальчишка, коему суждено стать во всех смыслах лучше. Но фабула не ограничивается одной только личностной метаморфозой. За сказочной историей создатели «Керити» укрыли, казалось бы, обыденные сюжеты: конфликт брата и сестры, столкновение с непорядочным человеком, отсутствие веры в собственные силы. Вполне естественно, что все противоречия тут решаются в пользу героев, ведь именно так всегда происходит в хороших сказках. Однако самая главная и, возможно, самая «взрослая» идея «Керити» заключается в необходимости сохранения культурного наследия потомкам. Сюжет мультфильма закручен вокруг спасения персонажей детских книг от забвения, а единственный человек, способный это сделать, для достижения цели вынужден сам учиться читать. Только тогда волшебный мир литературы станет воистину многогранен, когда ты сможешь войти в него сам. Книга должна жить, пока существует цивилизация, ведь за столько лет человек так и не изобрел другой, более емкий способ выражения собственных мыслей.
Хорошие мультфильмы рисуют не только большие студии — европейские аниматоры тоже создают красивые и качественные картины с необычной рисовкой, интересными сюжетами и особой атмосферой. Собрали классные малоизвестные мультфильмы — почти все они были номинированы на «Оскар»!
«Тайна Келлс»
Страна: Франция, Бельгия, Ирландия
Сюжет мультфильма основан на кельтской мифологии. Он рассказывает историю двенадцатилетнего Брендана, который живёт в аббатстве Келлс. Вместе с другими монахами мальчик строит стену, которая должна защитить их от набегов викингов. Брендана воспитывает дядя, и он категорически запрещает ему выходить за пределы стены, потому что там таится лес, полный опасностей. И Брендан покорно слушается, пока в аббатство не приходит Брат Эйдан, который делает Брендана своим учеником.
Повествование идёт не спеша: основной сюжет строится вокруг Брендана — как он познаёт мир и пытается сделать выбор между спокойным однообразным миром дяди и манящим, загадочным миром Брата Эйдана.
В мультфильме очень красивая рисовка, которая отражает сказочный мир исландской природы. Интересно наблюдать, как авторы играют с цветовой палитрой, как она меняется в зависимости от сцены: яркие насыщенные цвета в волшебном лесу; мрачные и серые во время знакомства Брендана с лесной феей Эйшлин, а самая напряжённая сцена — борьба с викингами, — выполнена в трёх оттенках: белом, чёрном и красном.
«Тайна Келлс» — самая первая работа Томма Мура. Он стал известен после создания ещё одного мультфильма, тоже основанного на кельтской мифологии — «Песнь моря». А 12 сентября состоялась мировая премьера ещё одной полнометражки Мура — «Легенда о волках».
«Эрнест и Селестина: Приключение мышки и медведя»

Эрнест и Селестина — герои, придуманные бельгийской художницей Габриэль Венсан. Она написала серию книг об их приключениях, которую впоследствии экранизировали. В мире, придуманном Венсан, живут только мыши и медведи. Селестина, как и все мыши, живёт под землёй. Она осваивает ремесло стоматолога и переодически выбирается наверх, чтобы забирать выпавшие молочные зубы у маленьких медвежат. А Эрнест живёт наверху и зарабатывает на жизнь тем, что он уличный музыкант.
Селестине не нравятся правила их мира, она искренне не понимает, почему они должны бояться медведей. А ещё Селестина мечтает стать художницей. Эрнест тоже не вписывается в общество: он живёт на отшибе, ни с кем не общается и постоянно находится под прицелом полиции. Однажды они встречаются и попадают в авантюру, которая и положила начало их дружбе.
И Эрнест, и Селестина одиноки. Общество не понимает их, а они, в свою очередь, не понимают общество и не хотят жить по установленным правилам. Поэтому они так быстро становятся друзьями.
В мультфильме много юмора, красивая акварельная анимация и интересные персонажи. И хотя мультфильм высмеивает работу полицейских и судебную систему, здесь нет ярлыков «хороший» и «плохой». Все герои живые со своими характерами, качествами и пороками.
«Под покровом ночи»

Маленький Тим — сирота. Он живёт в приюте и совершенно не ладит с другими детьми: над ним смеются, потому что Тим боится темноты. Когда ночью все ложатся спать, а воспитатели гасят свет, Тим перетаскивает свою кровать к окну, где от ночных кошмаров его спасает яркая звезда. Но однажды эта звезда пропадает, и Тим, отправившись на её поиски, попадает в страну Ноктурн — место, где оживают сны.
Мультфильм пронизан атмосферой таинственной ночной жизни. Он о ночных кошмарах, которые преследует не только детей, но и взрослых. Создатели представляют целую галерею ночных монстров, порождённых фантазией Тима: от тех, кто создаёт шорохи, до путальщиков волос.
Мультфильм о борьбе со страхами и о том, что не нужно бояться смотреть им в лицо. А ещё о том, что не стоит бояться темноты, ведь всё, что там происходит — странные звуки и мерещащиеся тени, — плод нашего воображения.
«Клаус»

Отец Джеспера — владелец почтовой империи. Сам Джеспер учится в Академии почтальонов, но он слишком ленив, избалован и привык ничего не делать. Тогда отец отправляет его в заброшенный северный городок Смиренсбург. Там царит вечная зима — холодная и мрачная. Жители на первый взгляд кажутся жестокими и недружелюбными, а паромщик предупреждает Джеспера, что в городе очень опасно.
Но Джеспер не вернётся домой, пока не обработает 600 писем. А как это сделать, если жители Смиренсбурга не обмениваются письмами, а вместо почтового отделения стоит курятник? Однажды Джеспер знакомится с лесником по имени Клаус, который делает чудесные детские игрушки. Объединившись, они дают вторую жизнь не только почтовому отделению, но и Смиренсбургу.
«Клаус» — история о том, как два обычных человека изменили жизнь людей, подарив им немного волшебства и сделав их добрее. Это легенда о том, как всё-таки появился Санта Клаус. Отличная альтернатива для тех, кто устал под Новый год пересматривать «Один дома» и «Реальную любовь».
«Жирафа»
Страна: Франция, Бельгия
Мультфильм о дружбе маленького мальчика Маки и жирафы по имени Зафара. Попавший в рабство Маки сбегает от своих хозяев и заводит дружбу с жирафами. Когда одну из жираф убивают, мальчик обещает ей, что будет заботиться о её дочери. Поэтому, когда бедуин Хасан забирает жирафу, чтобы отвезти её во Францию в подарок французскому королю, маленький Маки отправляется за ним. Его ждёт настоящее приключение из родной Африки до Франции — через пустыню, на воздушном шаре, а затем и на пиратском корабле.
В мультфильме очень красиво прорисованы пейзажи: Африка выглядит настолько натурально, что ощущаешь её горячий воздух, а Франция прорисована очень детально с её мощёными улочками, архитектурой и Елисейскими полями.
«Жирафа» очень трогательный мультфильм о взаимовыручке, любви, надежде и борьбе за своё счастье и счастье своих друзей. В нём есть место и юмору, и драме.

Мультфильм о вере в себя и в свои силы: маленький Натаниэль чувствует себя беспомощным и боится, что не справится с ответственностью, но в итоге из маленького беспомощного мальчика превращается в настоящего героя. О взаимоотношении братьев и сестёр: Натаниэль постоянно ссорится со старшей сестрой, но именно она приходит ему на помощь. А ещё о том, как важно верить в чудеса.
