В детском саду полным ходом идут приготовления к празднованию Нового года, дети и взрослые наряжают елку и ждут Деда Мороза. Главные герои этой истории: Маша — мечтательная девочка, которая верит в чудеса и волшебство, и Витя, который, наоборот, уверен, что все на свете можно объяснить с точки зрения науки. Но, когда к ним приходит настоящий Дед Мороз и рассказывает о своей беде, что его внучку Снегурочку украл Кощей Бессмертный, чтобы устроить веселый праздник для своей нечести, и теперь все дети земли могут остаться без Нового года, Витя соглашается отправиться с Машей в волшебную страну и спасти Снегурочку из плена.
Попав в волшебный лес, дети пытаются отыскать жилище Кощея. Пока они там блуждают, их замечает Кощеева свита: Кот Матвей, Леший и Баба Яга. Они сразу догадываются, что Маша с Витей хотят забрать у них Снегурочку, испортить им настроение и разозлить их страшного и ужасного Кощея, поэтому начинают планировать, как помешать маленьким смельчакам.
Баба Яга мастерски заманивает Машу и Витю в свою избушку на курьих ножках, кормит их и укладывает отдыхать, а сама бежит за подмогой, чтобы вскоре приготовить детишек и дружно, всей компанией ими полакомиться. Но Витя находит реактивную ступу, на которой они с Машей и улетают из избушки.
Дети встречают на своем пути и помогают Печке, полной пирожков, она им в ответ дает уголек, чтобы путь указал к Кощею, яблоне и маленькому старичку, которые тоже дают советы героям, как отыскать жилище Кощея.
Несмотря на преграды, которые чинят им Леший, Баба Яга и Кот Матвей, Маша и Витя все-таки находят Кощея Бессмертного и томящуюся в темнице Снегурочку.
Кощей хочет проучить детей, но у него очень болят зубы. Маша ставит ему условие: он отпускает Снегурочку, а она лечит ему зубы. Кощей нехотя соглашается. Снегурочка спасена!
Теперь Маше и Вите нужно срочно выбраться из сказочного леса и спастись от Кота Матвея и его подельников, которые все еще мечтают съесть маленьких героев. На обратной дороге им помогают их уже старые друзья: Печка, Яблоня и Старичок.
Маша и Витя вернулись в свой детский сад, где Дед Мороз со Снегурочкой уже водят хороводы с детьми. Витя говорит, что теперь он верит в чудеса, а Маша обещает, что больше не будет дразнить его очкариком.

Plot[edit]
Elementary school children Vitya and Masha are complete opposites; Vitya believes only in science and technology, while Masha believes in miracles. During the hall’s preparation for the New Year at their school, Masha brings to life the sculpture of Father Frost with a magic spell, who transports her and Vitya to a fairy-tale world to save the Snow Maiden: Koschei kidnapped the Snow Maiden to arrange the New Year for his evil spirits.
Father Frost gives the children three tips: One, do not wait for anyone to help, but help everyone in need, 2) do not get lost in a difficult moment and 3) hold on to each other when in a bad situation. Learning this, Koschey sends them an impure force – the vocal-instrumental trio «Wild Guitars»: Baba Yaga, Leshy and Wild Cat Matvei. Masha and Vitya fly away on a mortar and pestle from Baba Yaga. Vitya strikes Leshy with a self-made electroshock weapon. He also distracts Wild Cat Matvei, who runs around the forest with a big slingshot, using a mechanical mouse.
On the way to Koschei’s kingdom, Masha and Vitya also meet the Stove, the Apple Tree and Old Man-Forester and help them, and in return they show the children the way with the help of charcoal, an apple and a ball. But at the last moment Koshchei abducts Masha and lowers her on the elevator to his dungeon. Soon it turns out that Koshchei’s teeth hurt, and Masha relieves the sorcerer’s toothache with a healing rinse in exchange for the Snow Maiden’s release. Vitya summons Koshchei to a duel and defeats him with an ordinary magnet. The «Wild Guitars» trio go in pursuit of children, but the Stove, the Apple Tree and Old Man-Forester help Vitya and Masha, and they return to school with the Snow Maiden, where children and Father Frost are waiting for them.
